ZYLAR 631 is the newest member of the NOVA ChemicalsŪ lineup of clear impact-modified acrylic copolymers for injection molding. ZYLAR 631 delivers to designers and molders a cost effective alternative to the processing hardships and steadily increasing costs of other leading clear injection molding resins.

Q: What makes ZYLAR 631 different from other ZYLAR grades?
A: NOVA Chemicals introduced ZYLAR 631 because we saw a need in the market for a cost effective alternative to polycarbonate, PETG, clear ABS and impact acrylic. ZYLAR 631 combines the crisp clarity of our clearest ZYLAR grades and the superb practical toughness of our toughest grades.

Q: How can ZYLAR 631 reduce total costs for molders?
A: ZYLAR 631 delivers a cost effective alternative to the processing hardships and steadily rising costs of other clear injection molding resins.
  • Energy and labor costs associated with processing are up to 40% lower compared to polycarbonate and clear ABS
  • A 5-25% density advantage means more parts produced per pound of resin purchased
  • Cycle times can be reduced by up to 40%
  • Processing temperatures can be reduced by as much as 150°F (65°C)
  • ZYLAR processes at lower injection pressure and clamp force than PC
  • No drying is required in most cases, which means reduced energy costs and better resource utilization

Q: Is ZYLAR 631 tough enough for real-world applications?
A: Yes, ZYLAR 631 performs even better in many applications than some traditional material performance measures like Notched Izod predict. Learn more in our Practical Toughness technical bulletin.

Q: How does ZYLAR 631 stand up to gamma radiation?
A: ZYLAR 631 resists yellowing significantly better than polycarbonate and impact acrylic when exposed to Gamma radiation. A Sterilization technical bulletin is available.

Q: Does this product exhibit UV resistance and anti-stat properties?
A: ZYLAR 631 is available in UV stabilized and antistat formulations.

Q: Have the FDA, ISO and others approved this product?
A: ZYLAR 631 is suitable for use in housewares applications. ZYLAR 631 meets USP class VI specifications and can be sterilized by both gamma radiation and ethylene oxide. UL 94HB certification is pending. All ZYLAR resins comply with the following ISO 10993 tests: cytotoxicity, irritation/intracutaneous reactivity, acute systemic toxicity, short-term implantation and hemocompatibility.

Q: Where is this product available?
A: ZYLAR 631 is available from NOVA Chemicals or our distribution partners and agents worldwide. Please contact us today for more information.
